Original review: Stopped by this evening with my husband and son and had the best authentic boricua style food aside from my in-law’s cooking !
So hard to find Puerto Rican restaurants anywhere and we are so lucky to have our very own here in Ozone Park.
For apps, we ordered the alcapurrias which had a generous amount of perfectly seasoned ground beef. They were nice and thinly crisped on the outside, the way a fritter should be, and actual plantain flavor similar to banana leaf from a pastele which could be tasted throughout. Yum!
Next up, bacalaitos. They were great. Light, fluffy and flavorful. Not salty or greasy at all. My son loved those a lot.
For platters, my son had the chrome burger which he said he was great. My hubby had the breaded chicken which was perfect. It had a nice pica de gallo on the side with some sofrito seasoning, uhhh they need to add a little more of that stuff because I stole his. (Seriously though, please add a little more) Haha
I had the churrasco platter with white rice and beans. Steak was done perfectly and tender. The habichuelas were flavored well and the perfect consistency. My husband even had an olive in his beans which rarely happens when dining out.
Passion fruit mojito a must! Def stop by. It has a cool family friendly atmosphere, but also wanna grab a drink vibe and great music. Owners greeted us, and staff checked on us frequently. Will def be back.
Update after going a few times: Salmon is great, tripleta YUM! My son loves this dish. Pork taco must have been great because i scarfed mine down. The yucca fries are good and a large portion. Best tostones ever so fresh and yellow. The house salad is also always fresh. Not to my liking: paparellena, unfortunately the meat is not seasoned enough nor is the potato filling it’s just bland, but on the upside it’s not greasy, but still not worth ordering. The empanadas are also average. I do hope they add soup options in the future or at least come fall/winter time. Oh and the frozen Hennessy Sangria is great 💜.
It reminds us of PR and the way my grandmother made them!!!
Drinks are great.
Staff is fun and the owners are down to earth.
My go to plates here is the Picadera Platter!
