Amazing food and great atmosphere. I was able to find parking easily across the street. I had the Jollof rice and wings this was the best food I’ve have in a very long time.
The food at Vuuka is not bad by any means. I would not call it delicious either but it would be cruel to say it is bad. I was extremely excited to eat from this restaurant because it is a Nigerian establishment in downtown LA. I paid $35 for a beef jollof plate. The portion was EXTREMELY light. It came with a little amount of jollof, very very minimal spinach, and a small portion of thin beef flank it seemed like. I was very highly disappointed with what I was met with when I picked up my food.
First of all the food was delicious and the staff was very friendly I ordered the shrimp fried rice and my wife ordered the fufu and wanted egusi but unfortunately they were out of stock. So they offered a vegetable bowl instead and since it didn't come with meat she got asked if she wants beef or pork, so she ordered beef, as a replacement for the egusi.
We thought we ordered two meals. When the shrimp fried rice came out it looked very small, no shrimps or plantains on the side as in the pictures here. just a dome of shrimp fried rice. Then after a little wait the fufu and vegetable bowl came out but my wife and i both got three dishes placed on our table . Two plates of fufu, two small bowls with spinach on it and two small dishes with three meat pieces each on it.
We thought that they might have split the portions for us. But at the end we got a bill for $106, which seemed lofty for two dishes with no drinks. I asked for a breakdown and turns out we were served and charged for SEVEN dishes instead. One of which came without two of the three sides it was advertised with.
The lady taking our order was super nice, but wasn't there for when we got our check and overall we had a great experience at the restaurant and like i said the food was delicious but we couldn't help but feel a little bit like we might have gotten ripped off as we left the restaurant. Because we didn't order that many dishes, and the price seemed pretty high for the amount of food we got served, plus the fried rice literally came with nothing on the side as described on the menu. Probably just a misunderstanding.
I’ve really enjoyed this restaurant. I’ve had the jollof rice and beef stew which is quite tasty. The portion sizes are healthy ones. I’ve only ordered delivery but will definitely dine in sometime soon.
This place was great. Hip but chill vibe. Awesome friendly service. Star attraction was the whole pompano fish, grilled to perfection. Goat stew was tender and rich. Egusi soup with fufu was a savory tactile sensation. Jill of rice was nice too. Vuuka is a perfect place for catching up with friends or a pre-show supper.
