Food was borderline inedible. Everything tasted like something I might have tried to cook in college – and failed. We should have figured the food wasn't going to be good when we walked in at 5pm on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was empty.

We ordered the dry malatang since my wife was craving dry pot. It tasted like peanut butter with salt and peppers, and the portions were laughably small. It came with basically one piece of each of the advertised items – one fish ball, one slice of spam, one quail egg, etc.

We also got the pickled sauerkraut spicy beef noodle soup. It just tasted like sauerkraut and salt with peppers. Where was the beef flavor?? The beef slices tasted meaty – not in a good way.

The owner/manager was really nice and came by to see how we liked everything. We gave him our honest review. He said he'd talk to the chef to make it better. He might need to hire a new chef.

My wife and I couldn't stop talking about how bad the food was all night. It was only after we finished eating and left the restaurant that we noticed the new bruin bowl malatang restaurant next door – it was packed. We'll probably try that place next time – even the owner/manager here suggested it…

Not flashy but very authentic. They were busy when i dined there around 7pm. I saw mostly Asian customers so that tells a lot of their authenticity. Also have vegan options when ask.

My noodles were ok but my friend’s malatang tasted very bland.

Maybe not the best Sichuan food, but for west Los Angeles it's more than good enough. Service is quick and efficient, and they even do decent rice, unlike some of their competitors.
